Care.com's Growth Story
The inspiration behind Care.com stemmed from Sheila Marcelo’s personal and professional experiences. A young mother with two small children who was also sandwiched at an early age caring for her parents, Sheila was challenged to find quality care solutions. She knew this problem was not unique to her family and sought a better solution than the yellow pages. She drew from her career in technology and founded Care.com in 2006.
From launch in 2007, the vision was big: To help families around the world fill the critical need for care for their loved ones, pets and homes and help caregivers find meaningful work.
By 2012, Care.com had raised $111 million in VC funding, added household payroll and tax expertise by acquiring Breedlove & Associates (now HomePay), and scaled internationally, building the service in the UK and expanding across Western Europe by acquiring Betreut.de.
Care.com went public in January 2014, raising $91 million at IPO, and today has nearly 700 employees around the world and serves more than 19 million members spanning 16 countries and more than 800,000 corporate client employees.
